Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC)

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) measures absorbable or emissive energy amount while sample is being heated, cooled or kept at constant temperature. In this technique, temperature difference coming from or moving away from the sample with reference is shown depending on temperature or time. DSC uses same measurement principles with DTA. There is a sample and reference in both. Distinctly, sample temperature and reference temperature are kept as same in DSCs working with principle of power compensation. If temperature difference is detected between sample and reference, energy (power) amount given to sample is changed to keep the temperature same. Thus, temperature transfer amount in sample during phase change can be detected.
