ICP-OES is one of the most popular techniques currently used for the analysis of trace elements of many specimen types. It is based on the emission measurements made by the atoms that are excited when passing into the gas phase by spraying the sample to the plasma at about 6000 – 10000 ° C temperature. Extraction or fragmentation is required for solid samples while direct measurement of liquids and gases is possible as the sample. The ICP-OES instrument is used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of solid and liquid samples. With this device it is possible to analyze trace elements in agricultural products, food products, live tissues, geological samples, environmental samples and water samples. Heavy metal analysis in liquid samples is the most common practice. Detection limits of the device are generally in ppb-ppm level, depending on the application and sample matrix.
